Planning The Working Mom Balance
If you are a working mom it is extremely important that you plan the work life balance or else you will find that you will be spending all of your time working and your family life will most definitely suffer. What this really boils down to is that you must be prepared to say no at work. If your boss asks you to stay late to do some extra work you are going to be faced with a tricky situation but you have got to be prepared to stand up for yourself.
If you start agreeing to every request to work extra you will soon find yourself being expected to stay and in some cases without being asked. At the start of every week you should set out the times that you are going to work and the times that you are not even going to think about work and spend valuable time with the family.
An example could be that you will set aside every Saturday and Sunday as family time along with two evenings in the week. Once this has been decided it will establish boundaries both at home and at work and everyone will know where they stand. There is nothing worse than promising your children that you will be there for them only to turn around at the last minute and let them down.
At the same time your children will also have to respect the fact that they are not to disturb you during the hours you have set aside for work and if that means that you have to stay behind at work, then so be it.
A great idea when planning the working mom balance is to spend time with your children every morning if your schedule can fit it in, many people would say that you should make sure that your schedule can fit it in! Just 10 minutes lying on the bed talking to your children before the day gets under way can go on to have such a positive effect on their lives and 10 minutes is not so hard to fit in, is it?
You will soon realise that is is the small things that you may not think are all that important that make all of the difference in your children’s life’s and it is those little things that you should really concentrate on.
