Spending time with your child isn’t just about spoiling them with gifts
Every child loves to receive gifts but many people make the mistake in thinking that they should be forever buying them things. It really is a big mistake to spoil children and without going all deep and meaningful it really can cause a lot of problems in later life. A child who is spoilt will go through life thinking that they can have what they want whenever they want.
It is far more important to spend time with your children and them just knowing that you are spending time with them because you want to, not because you feel that you have to. I was speaking to someone the other day who readily admits that she was spoilt on a daily basis with numerous gifts and she also went on many luxurious holidays on a regular basis, but the fondest memories that she has from when she was growing up were the times when her her dad put up the tent in the back garden and they spent the night camping under the stars, with the odd midnight feast thrown in for good measure. How amazing is that, all of the money she had spent on her and thing that she remembers with the fondest memories didn’t cost anything at all.
If you take the time to spend time with your children I can assure you that you will see the delight in their eyes which will make you all feel absolutely brilliant. Don’t get me wrong, it is lovely to be able to give your children gifts but not all of the time, even though it won’t seem like it, the novelty will soon wear off and it will eventually just be seen as a shallow gesture.
If you can spend time with your children there are lots of things that you can do without spending lots of money on gifts that will give you all so much more satisfaction, playing football, fishing, bike riding. What I am trying to say is that many people feel guilty because they don’t have the money to lavish gifts on their children Please don’t feel bad if this applies to you because I can absolutely guarantee that when your children look back on their childhood it is the time that they spent with you that will be far more memorable than any gifts that you bought them.
